In the UK we have gone back into lockdown. For me it feels quite calm, and an opportunity to take things day by day and reflect on all that has happened so far this year.
I worked with a group this week on a reflection process which was a really lovely way to look at what went well this year, what didn’t go so well, what we want to let go of and what we want to keep as we move forward.
I’d like to share that practice with you. (For information I took the framework from Hyper Island).
Step 1:
Pick an area to focus on through the reflection, ideas include: Resilience, Relationships, Health, Personal meaning/Purpose, Work, Collaboration, Society/Community/Planet, Mindset, Creativity, Learning, Leadership
Step 2:
Now, thinking about your chosen area of reflection, write down, what didn’t go well in 2020? What do I want to do differently and/or improve?
Step 3:
Next ask yourself, what went well in 2020? What shall I continue to do/be?
Step 4:
Now ask yourself, what do I want to stop doing/being in 2021?
Step 5:
And then write down, what will I start doing/being in 2021?
Step 6:
Gratitude.
Daily gratitude feels good. Complete your reflection with gratitude for what you’ve experienced over the past 10 months and for what’s to come in the rest of 2020 and in the new year. Can you think of three things to be grateful for?
Step 7:
Intention.
Set an intention for what you want to be, live, and show up in the world. An intention shouldn’t be confused with a goal—it’s not something you attach an expectation or evaluation to. It’s something you want to align with in your life. It’s an aim, a purpose, or attitude you’d be proud to commit to.
I’d encourage you to share your reflections with someone you trust. It’s a really lovely experience to be heard and held to account for your hopes moving forward.
With love as always, Hannah and Team Bird
